RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING...

Rain, rain, rain today in Melbourne. There is only one occasion when I am not comfortable in my glasses and that is when it's raining, and you constantly have to wipe of little drops from your lenses. So, I always keep a good lens cloth in my bag - and a great umbrella... here are some of my favorites, from Willian & Co available at Fulton - I just adore the patterns.

(click on the images for links)

These are great because you can cover your whole face when the rain is approaching sideways. Just look at HRH, the Queen, how she seem to have a whole wardrobe of them, matching with every outfit... Isn't the Birdcage Umbrella by Lulu Guinness adorable?

There are also other prints available, below from Van Gogh (Irises) and an artprint "Raining in Paris" - and you can even make your own print. So many choices... today I have to satisfy myself by staying inside, Just heading out to meet some girls at Chez Dre to plan their travel tour in Europe.

DOES YOUR GLASSES HAVE THE X-FACTOR?

So, watched the x-factor last night and usually I just adore Ronan for everything he says and his attitude towards the contestants but last night he kinda gave the impression that one of the finalists should perhaps ditch his glasses... It was when Declan Sykes did his (A-MAZING) performance of David Bowies "Life on Mars", without his glasses on, that Ronan gave him praise for taking them off. I do agree that Declans styling was absolutely awesome, in a sleek hair look a'la "Bowie", and he is a real chameleon as he can change his look so drastically depending on the performance.

However, my thinking is that glasses can really help emphasize a certain look or style and if the most authentic look was best accomplished without glasses for this particular occasion, so be it, but next time they might well give the right x-factor! I do like Declan when he is wearing his black frames but perhaps next time a different colour, or style of glasses (instead of ditching them completely) will give Ronan a reason for praise again?

AUCKLAND STYLE SPOTTING: LITTLE BLACK ONES

Found this amazing style space in Britomart during my last weekend in Auckland;
New Zealand Fashion Museum. Fabulous!
Link
The space showcased the various black's in fashion - and Im not talking about The All Blacks now... or am I? The exhibition seem to investigate - or highlight - the possibility that the colour black goes beyond fashion for New Zealanders, a symbol of the pride of the nation. As I'm not a well educated sportsgirl, I did a little search on Wikipedia and found that "the New Zealand men's national rugby union team's early uniforms consisted of a black jersey with a silver fern and white knickerbockers. By their 1905 tour New Zealand were wearing all black, except for the silver fern, and their All Black name dates from this time." So it almost sounds like a coincidence or perhaps a subconscious liking of the colour black among the early team members? :-)

Wherever the truth lies, the exhibition was enjoyable and included costumes from the early 1900s, when the colour black was the thing to wear when mourning someone lost - with a whole set of rules to go with it - to the LBD for various formal, fashionable occasions in the later 1900s.

Ps. Despite my lack of knowledge and enthusiasm for sport, we did enjoy a beautiful meal at Kermadec while watching the All Blacks on the big screen, beating France - and I was immensely impressed with the Haka:)

Here's my favorite little black ones to complete the look....

Stack of sparkling little black frames from Alex Perry; from top, AP 07, AP 10, Ap 09.

AP 06 in a gorgeous feminine shape and black onyx imitations on the sides.

A fashion accessory - or an evil necessity?

Findings from a recent study shows that over 80% of American specswearers view glasses as a medical necessity rather than a fashion accessory. Now that is depressing... no wonder that those fabulous people sporting amazing style and fashion sense in a cool pair of glasses stand out from the crowd. Let's take today to celebrate style and those many stylish Aussies and Kiwis... and fellow Scandinavians (yes, I do feel that Swedes and Danes in particular are very stylish people - glasses are a true fashion accessory back home) that look fabulous in their eyewear!

(As an example of style, beautiful Sally above in the retro look wearing the frames "Grenville" in bold tortoise shell and "Osiris" in crystal acetate.)

FRAMED IN GOLD

I do realize it's been AGES since my last post. Sorry about that. Have just come back from a nice holiday in Europe to see my family in Sweden and in the UK and it was LOVELY. Im now rested and ready to tackle reality again:)

Just thought Id show you these little snazzy specs I found at the gold market in Dubai... made of pure gold. Priced at 2000 Dirhams... A bit too much for me but ever so snazzy if you are diggin' the gold. However!! Note that pure gold get very soft so is not ideal as glasses... but gold plated / coated spectacles are not a bad idea!

YEARBOOK YOURSELF

This is Chris through the years, long before I knew him... in different outfits, hair styles and looks.... I think the look today (below) is much more balanced and natural but I do dig the groovy hair styles above:-)

Wanna have an impressive image portfolio of yourself? Yearbook yourself and see what you could have looked like through the decades. You will need a photo of yourself with a good angle and not too much hair covering your face...

O, and this is me by the way...
