SYDNEY FRAME STYLING EVENT

Me and the lovely Isabelle who was modelling the Gok Wan glasses for me during our Frame Styling tour in Sydney the other day. She looked absolutely stunning in every single pair of them which made my job very easy:-) Plus - she was a dream to work with. Thanks Isabelle for a really nice day!

In this photo (sorry about the quality, just had my little iPod touch with me), Isabelle is wearing the masculine 60s style GW 18 in brown with striped wooden effect acetate - looks awesome with casual wear and jeans but also real cool with a more glamorous outfit and bright red lipstick!

DOES YOUR GLASSES HAVE THE X-FACTOR?

So, watched the x-factor last night and usually I just adore Ronan for everything he says and his attitude towards the contestants but last night he kinda gave the impression that one of the finalists should perhaps ditch his glasses... It was when Declan Sykes did his (A-MAZING) performance of David Bowies "Life on Mars", without his glasses on, that Ronan gave him praise for taking them off. I do agree that Declans styling was absolutely awesome, in a sleek hair look a'la "Bowie", and he is a real chameleon as he can change his look so drastically depending on the performance.

However, my thinking is that glasses can really help emphasize a certain look or style and if the most authentic look was best accomplished without glasses for this particular occasion, so be it, but next time they might well give the right x-factor! I do like Declan when he is wearing his black frames but perhaps next time a different colour, or style of glasses (instead of ditching them completely) will give Ronan a reason for praise again?

GET READY FOR RACE TIME

Going to the races this spring? Have you got your outfit ready yet? Make sure you include your glasses into the planning as there are great opportunities to mix and match with make-up, dress, scarve, fascinator, shoes... And, as we are all hoping to sun will shine on us, why not get transition lenses in your glasses. Turns them into sunnies as soon as the light hits your face! Happy race planning!

A fashion accessory - or an evil necessity?

Findings from a recent study shows that over 80% of American specswearers view glasses as a medical necessity rather than a fashion accessory. Now that is depressing... no wonder that those fabulous people sporting amazing style and fashion sense in a cool pair of glasses stand out from the crowd. Let's take today to celebrate style and those many stylish Aussies and Kiwis... and fellow Scandinavians (yes, I do feel that Swedes and Danes in particular are very stylish people - glasses are a true fashion accessory back home) that look fabulous in their eyewear!

(As an example of style, beautiful Sally above in the retro look wearing the frames "Grenville" in bold tortoise shell and "Osiris" in crystal acetate.)

"COLOUR IS THE KEE" - STYLE TIPS FROM JENNY KEE

In a campaign to encourage mature women (and men) to wear glasses as an accessory rather than as a necessity, the fabulous Jenny Kee is inspiring us to experiment with colours and shapes to find our own, personal signature style.

She says: "Don't be a slave to trends, some shapes and colours won't suit you. Instead, experiment with different options to see what best fits your own features and complexion".

This is something that Jenny herself has mastered with her fiery red colour as signature with red glasses, lipstick and accessories (such as her newly released collection of silk scarves in all shades of red, pink and orange).

She continues: "The greatest gift of the mature woman is being clear about who she is and what she likes. Make sure everthing you wear has a flavour of who you are".

The reason for campaigning about the style opportunities with glasses is that a recent survey commissioned by Specsavers shows that deteriorating eyesight is one of the biggest frustrations of getting older. Almost one quarter (23%) of Australians aged over 45 don't wear glasses, even though they need them, simply because it makes them feel old and ugly.

Jenny says she has over the years been encouraging her friends to be proud spec wearers and to select glasses that makes a fashion statement and express their personality. And unlike other celebrities, Jenny actually takes her glasses off when she wants to keep a low profile (whilst others would hide behind large sunglasses) as her own glasses has become such an important part of her appearance.

To help you on the way with finding your own signature style, here are some of Jenny Kee's hottest tips to success:

Be yourself: The greatest fashion gift of the mature woman is being clear about who she is and what she likes. Make sure everything you wear has a flavour of who you are.

Enjoy freedom: Don’t be a slave to trends, some shapes and colours will not suit you. Experiment with different options to see what best fits your shape and colouring.

Keep a balance: Embrace your individual flair, but utilise basics so as to not over do a specific look.

Stay current: Dressing age appropriate does not mean old. Be inspired by new styles and fashion movements. Don’t be afraid to change or re-invent your look.

Face first: When it comes to style, your face should come first. Focus on your hair and your glasses and everything else will fall into place.

* The research was conducted by Galaxy on behalf of Specsavers in April 2011, involving a representative sample of over 1020 respondents aged 45-69 years old.
